Message: I can not believe we live in a world where people can actually
ban a breed of dog in a AMERICAN community. This breed of dog being none
other than the AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIER. Isn't that ironic, AMERICANS
banning AMERICANS. The people of Denver should speak up, let the Nazi's of
Denver and all the other cities nation wide know that these are God's
creatures and have just as much right to be here as we do. Ban felons and
violent offenders from owning such breeds, but not the dog. As far as
I am concerned pit bulls are, and always will be more humane then we could ever be.

Message: In all honesty, I'm still waiting for a good TRUE and FACTUAL
reason for all this nonsense. Know why? Cause there isn't one. I love my

Unless that is you count being licked to death vicious. God forbid that! : )

Message: I have some sort of pit bull mix. He is the best dog ever. I
have had dogs since I was born, but never one like him. He is always there
for me. When I cry, no matter what he is doing or where he is, he comes
running just to sit on me or near me to let me hold him. When I scream
he runs like the ground is on fire to get to me to protect me. At
night he sleeps with his fat head on my pillow and under the blankets. He
loves to be held and cuddled and loved and they just get such a bad
name but view the stats people. In 2004 out of all dog bites in the U.S. less
then 2% were from pit bulls YET over 30% were from German Shepherds do you
hear crap about them?! NOPE! Also, you need to view the page that has
you pick the pit bull 99.7% of the time- u r wrong - mostly because
there is no such thing as a "full-bred pit bull" a pit bull is a name for
a group of different mixes of dogs, which most people don't know... that
is why every dog with a square head and a stocky build is considered
one, yet usually that is wrong, they would not be considered a
pit bull due to their mix. There are 6 different mixes that together
make up a pit bull... learn something new everyday huh? There is a great
page that explains this all in detail but it is down for service now. Once it is up- you all need to go there.

Message: Let me state first and foremost that I am an animal lover and
have been all my life. I have always had a natural spiritual, empathetic
bond to them. I have never had a bad encounter with a wild or domestic
animal. From the time I was an infant dogs and cats were allowed to
sleep with me. We always had pit bulls and pit mixes. I have never sought
and paid for a pure bred from a breeder or pet store. I believe in
adopting animals that are already alive in this world and need homes and
rescue from suffering and abuse. I was a veterinary technician, I work at
home full time now running my own rescue and because of health issues I
cannot work outside of the home anymore. I am not too far away from a
high crime drug trafficking area where dog fighting is a popular sport.
Many of my pits come from their busts. I also get other breeds that
were bait. In this area also there is a high fascination with wolves. They
are captured as pups and sold. I have had experience with wolves
before when I used to live in a small wilderness community, it was
not uncommon to see the local Native Americans with them as companions. I
had a few growing up. Now I have seen them pop up here and I am getting
the rejected juveniles who are difficult to train and do not want to
submit. My most unique wolf-dog is a pit-wolf mix. She spends her time
alone. She does not recognize pack behavior or how to socialize with
other dogs. She is not aggressive, and she loves cats. She treats them like
pups actually- it is very cute. Everyone is altered tested and given
shots before entering this home. There is a pack of coyotes that live
near us. When she hears them at night she is very curious and answers
them. But she has the pit fur and the shorter, muscular compact body.
Her head is not boxy or squared, it is longer like a wolves with wolf
fangs. Another popular breed I deal with are rottweilers. I have
personally gone to the pound and begged on behalf of pits. Begged them
to let me have a try with a dog before they euthanized it. I
have had success so I KNOW miracles can happen! I am willing to risk
my life for this breed. And yes I will admit I was a PETA member. I did
not know what they were doing. I trusted them.

Message: Pit Bulls Vicious?
I am so sick and tired of people putting down All Pit Bulls just
because a few have a bad rap. Not all Pit's are bad dogs nor is the breed
vicious, that's like saying all people are bad because a few people murder other
people, sounds stupid right well so does saying a whole breed is bad
because of a few. Most Pit Bulls that act vicious were brought up that
way either because the owner trained them to be like that or because
the owner didn't train them at all. I have owned many Pit Bulls in my
life and own them still to this day with my children, I have never had
one turn on me or my children or anything or anybody for that matter. I
train my dogs starting from the first day they come to my home if they
are born in my home same rules apply. The ones that are born in my home
are bottle fed by me and my children a couple of times each day to make
there bond with humans a great one. When the puppies open there eyes
people are who they see first and then there mom and other animals. As soon as the puppies have there first set of shots and are safe
from catching anything they are taken everywhere and put in different
surroundings and introduced to a variety of different animals and people.
They are also starting basic obedience and by the time they are ready
for a new home they are off to a great start, now being the responsible
person I am I check out everybody that is a potential buyer for one of
my pups, I do my best to make sure they do not go to people that are
going to fight them or use them for any other illegal purposes. I only
let them go to responsible owners that are going to continue there
training and socializing so they stay sweet and gentle trustworthy dogs.
They are protective of there family which is to be expected of any breed
of dog. Where the problem lies in most of the pit bull attacks is lack
of training on the owners part just letting the dog do what it pleases
and never correcting it's bad behavior, lack of socializing the dog, so when it
encounters something new it doesn't know how to react to it so it attacks probably out of fear or just not knowing
any better, also the owners fault not the dogs. And the biggest problem
again lies on the owner because most pit bull owners want them for
there personal entertainment which is sad and they chain them up and starve
them to make them more aggressive in the fighting ring, if they win the
fight they live for what to be chained up once again tore up and once
again they are left alone ignored and treated like they have no
feelings, then the day comes the ignored, neglected, starved and abused Pit
Bull gets loose, it goes on a killing spree killing every animal in it's
path and attacking any human that gets in it's way, Why? because it's
now free and it doesn't want to go back on the chain and back to the life
it has been living, for God only knows how long and because killing
animals is what it was taught to do, all it's life it has been killing
animals and praised for doing so and now it is getting destroyed
which is probably better for it anyway now as opposed to the life it had
been living. Which is sad because it didn't have to turn out that way
for the dog or the dogs victims, but who gets the blame for it? All the
Pit Bulls owners? NO, the Pit Bull does, and not just the dog that did
it, THE WHOLE BREED!
I have owned many dogs and many different breeds from pure bred to mutts and the best dogs I have ever owned out of all of them was the American Pit Bull Terrier. They are smart, very intelligent dogs, lovable, the biggest babies I've ever seen, Comical, they are very goofy and like to show off , they have lots of personality and will actually smile at you especially when they are in trouble. They have wild uncontrollable tongues that they will soak you quickly with kisses. They don't know they aren't lap dogs and will occasionally try to sit in your lap if your not careful. They love to go riding and if you leave your windows down you might find your pit bull waiting in the passenger seat of your car when you get ready to leave, well that is the problem we have at our house anyway. I love my Pit's and Pit Bulls in general and I am very upset that they are trying to ban this loving misunderstood breed everywhere, because of a few bad owners and the even fewer actually bad Pit Bulls. The sad thing is most people don't even know what a Pit Bull looks like and they mistake other dogs for Pit Bulls because they have never actually seen one they've only seen pictures of them. Well there are other dogs that resemble Pit Bulls but aren't actually Pit Bulls, the American Staffordshire Terrier being one of them. I have people come up to me and pet my dogs and we'll be talking and then they will comment on my dogs and how wonderful they are with my kids and how sweet they are, then they will say what kind of dog is that? And I smile and say it's a Pit Bull and then they are like Really, and your not afraid of having them around your children? and that pisses me off cause before they knew what kind of dog I had they had nothing but nice things to say about them, and that just goes to show how ignorant some people can be.
Now I'm sure I'm going to get some negative responses to this post and that's okay everybody is entitled to there opinion as I am to mine, just know your facts that's all I ask don't run your mouth about something you know nothing about! If you've never actually owned one or been around one then you have nothing to say to me on this subject. I want to hear from people that have actually been around at least one Pit Bull in there life, I will respond to those if you are just trying to start something I don't have time for you, I am trying to save the breed not destroy it!

Message: Being an animal lover all my life, it's safe to say I have a
biased opinion when it comes to BSL and the "pit bull". Growing up in
Chicago and for a few years on a Wisconsin farm I have literally had all
types of animals as pets. The ones that stick with me forever are my
pit bull Tina, and my American Bulldog Zoe. Before these two girls came into
my life I had raised (with my families help) at least 4 other dogs and
a host of other critters and my father had raised countless other pits.
Tina came into my life when a friend of mine confided in me that her
brother needed to get rid of a dog he could not keep any more. When I
went to his house to look at her, she ran to me shaking in hysterics and
buried her head in my chest. This dog had been beaten and tortured in an
attempt to make her mean, and when that didn't work she was used as a
puppy mill. Although I was apprehensive of taking a pit into my life not
knowing her specific history, she was one of the most beautiful
creatures I have ever seen; a picture perfect red-nose with a superb
build. This man explained that if I took her there would be no bringing
her back and he had done all he could to turn her into a regular dog,
but could not establish a connection. I took a shot and called my father for advice. After seeing her his
advice was to put her "down" seeing that in his mind she had seen too
much and was a safety liability. She was afraid of cords and would not
walk over them if lying on the ground, would not sit under ceiling fans,
cringed at the sight of a human hand over her head, and did her best to
hide in corners out of sight of anyone. That's what he had seen. I did
not give up that easily and by giving her as much space in the beginning
as possible watched a timid beaten dog grow physically and mentally
into the greatest gift God chose to bestow on me. She stole the hearts of
my entire family (mother, step father, 3 brothers, and anyone who
appreciated a beautiful pit bull) and was the one thing that loved me
unconditionally her entire life. She passed away 2 years ago in what was
easily the worst day of my life, but her memories live on with pictures and
stories told amongst family. I've yet to bring another animal into my life since then, but you can bet when it happens, it will be a
pit bull, with out a doubt the greatest breed of dog around. It's a shame
that people pre-judge this dog without knowing him/her, and a sin that
some of those who do, abuse its power and loyalty.

Message: My pit story! Well I am the proud mother of Pixie. She is a 3
year old black and white, petite pit bull puppy. I had just moved out on my own. I was in nursing school. I wanted a
dog. I don't really like breeders because I feel there are too many
homeless dogs that need homes instead. So, I was going to rescue.
I worked at an animal hospital that received strays all the time. So,
one day this woman brought in this little puppy with a big round belly.
She said that she found her by a dumpster behind a store trying to find
food. Well I fell in love with her right then and there. I loved her big
belly and floppy ears. She was all kisses too! I took her home that night and she has been Princess Pixie ever since.
Pixie is my everything. She loves to dress up. Her favorite is anything that shines! She has expensive taste!
I am proud to say that she completed obedience school and received the Most Improved award. We are going for the AKC K-9 good citizen next!
That is our story!

Message: I thought I'd post my story of my two babies. Shrek who is now 4
yrs old, huge dog, is a big mommas boy. I rescued him from a home of
someone who was unable to provide or keep the pups. He was 2 weeks old
when I took him because the mother had been taken away (long story).
Anyhow I took him on, I have always loved pit bulls since my grandma had 2
of them when I was young. I bottle fed him, taught him to eat,
basically his mother. I use to put the bottle under my side because he wouldn't
drink unless he had something to push on like a belly : ) It was hard
for the first month driving back and forth from work during breaks and
lunch to watch him but it was all worth it. Phatty my other 4 yr old was
rescued from a bad couple who had her caged up and a collar that had
burned through her skin. I saw her with them one night and I offered them
$100 to let me take her off their hands if they couldn't care for her.
She was vicious/defensive for the first 6 months but she is the
most adorable loving dog now. They are both healthy, happy and
beautiful.
You can click here for pictures of them.

Message: "He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader.
He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion." - Unknown Author.
My wife and I came to love pits against our wills.
Her silly late teen son adopted a pit and naturally soon came to a
place where he could no longer care for her. What could we do? The son was off to another state and unless we took
in his dog off she would have gone to who knows where.
Given his irresponsibility she could end up in a kill shelter. Years of the scary Pit bull stories I had read.
They are bred for blood I had heard; killers at heart, born to rip flesh, evil incarnate judging from all reports.
But I knew dogs in general, my family had had Great Danes, Newfoundlands, Burnese, large breeds all.
Indulge me as I wax philosophical. I knew that dogs had walked by the side of man longer than we could
look back into history. Were our steady helpmates essentially forever.
It made no sense to me that somehow, just this one breed had been so
corrupted that 200,000 years of symbiosis was negated. So I took in Sadie.
What did I discover in her? Was she the killer of legend?
Far from it. What I found was a dog with a big bold beautiful heart.
And a sensitive heart too. I was charmed by her emotive intelligence. I had to learn a whole new
way of training just for her. Perhaps it was from her vaguely known early life of not being treated
so well but I found all I knew about training a dog was not working.
Where I had been taught being hard and firm I found being soft and
gentle worked, where once I may have used a newspaper on the nose I found
just a stern look would do. Now my Sadie iswell my Sadie. The best damn dog I have ever been blessed with knowing.
I love dogs in general, even the pocket puffs. But I love my Sadie more than any I have ever met.
I keep irregular hours because I work at home most of the time so we do
some walking in the wee hours of the night. She and I sit on a hill and watch the sun come up, with the dewy grass
beneath us and I am transported back in time. When my forefathers had dogs quite like her by their sides.
I always have the feeling I remember on a intellectual basis
My Sadie is still there and wonders why we/I changed. Why cant we just curl upon this sweet, soft grass?
My Sadie still has the beastie in her. She, me and my wife sleep
together as a pack and none of us sleeps well without the others.
Sometimes way late at night I lay on my bed and Sadie snuggles up and
lays her head on my chest, lets out a big sigh and goes to slumber.
Nothing is better than a snoring dog by your side.

Message: I was never a Pit Bull person, and at one time yes, I was scared
to own one. However, I have been the proud owner of a Rottweiler as those
are my dogs. I love them. Well on my birthday eight years ago, I was
laying in bed and woke up to my husband standing over me with this big
goofy grin on his face. Then saw he had something in his hand. It looked like a baby cow or a
pig. It made a little greeting noise and had this twinkle in his eye. I
was charmed, I asked, "What the hell is that?" "Its a Pit bull!" said my husband. I freaked at first.. " OH no I don't
think this is good and what about our Rottie??" Well Samson our new puppy, was introduced to Leroy our Rot.
Leroy wasn't sure about this at first but took him in like a mom.
Eight years later, Samson and Leroy are best buds. They have got into a
few doggie brawls but lick each other to death after wards and are inseparable.
I eventually rescued Lady a female half Pit half Lab. Leroy and Samson
took her in right away, they accepted her. Samson is the most intelligent dog I have ever owned. He "knows" things.
He picks up on things very quickly. Example - I was out in my duck yard one day, yes I have ducks on the other side
of the yard. I saw my ducks run single file in a hurry and what happened
was the wind blew the door open to that side of the yard and Samson got out and was right on their tail!
I screamed, " SAMSON NO!! INSIDE NOW!!" He turned right around and went back in and sat next to my husband (
who was wondering what the hell was going on) and then looked at me
like.." I wasn't going to do anything!" Now unattended, Samson would of probably tried to have some duck dinner,
but he stopped and listened to me. He knew. I was shocked at how he
knew. While a dog is a dog, point is Samson is loyal to me and knew that
the ducks are my babies. He obeyed me. The door is fixed now so that wont happen again. Let me also say that
Samson has got out a few times over the years, a few. Ran up to other
dogs, been around kids, he was more interested in peeing on bushes.
Samson proves the myth and over hyped medial coverage and negative
press is exaggerated on these dogs. This coming from a woman who would never own this kind of dog ten years
ago. Now its my fight to help put a positive, true fact on a breed that
is abused by punks who think they are tough, and ignorant councilmen
who have nothing better to do. Samson changed my life.

Message: I have an APBT- Coco Puff. I wasn't looking for a dog, but a girl
brought her into work and I just couldn't say no. I have always been a
dog lover, but had never been around a pit bull. We took her for a
weekend agreement. If it didn't work out I could bring her back on Mon. I
live with my grandmother & I wasn't sure how she was going to take a new
puppy. Here we are 4 years later and my Gram & Great Uncle (both in their
70's) couldn't live without her. She actually got my Gram to start taking
walks & going outside more often. They will actually get down on the
floor to play with her. Unfortunately, we did get a bad response from our mailman. After
delivering the mail for almost 8 months- he asked me what kind of dog she was
(she has full tail & ears) when I told him, he stopped delivering the
mail. He would only deliver it if the door to the house was shut, if it
wasn't (we do also have a screen door) he would sit outside & beep the
horn, making my gram go out and get it from him. He tried to do this on
VERY rainy day when I was home. I went right up to the Post Office &
complained to the postmaster. Needless to say this gentleman is no longer
our mailman. Coco also has a blood disorder. She is purebred, but she started having
a problem with her red blood cell count. We have spent over $2000 on
visits and steroids to try to correct it & make her healthy again. She is
everyone's favorite @ the vet office.... Even when she pees all over the
floor & then hides in the corner- really viscous huh? I will do whatever
it takes to save her. These dogs can be the most loving & caring dogs ever.

Message: I got my female pit as a
birthday present and fell in love with the breed. They are the best dogs I have
ever had! She learned real quick (even for how dense she is)! Well, my friend's
neighbor had been breeding pits for a long time I guess, but used them as
fighting dogs. The surrounding neighbors had called animal control on them many
times but nothing ever got done, they would just breed another litter. Well one
day, one of their puppies had gotten out, so my friend secretly took it. She
knew how much my husband and I loved pits so she gave him to us. He was so
underweight it was the saddest thing I have ever seen. He was so hungry all the
time he would become very vicious over his food. But we decided we would try and
work with him on it and not give up, considering how he was treated. We really
wanted to keep him and help him, but he wasn't showing signs of improvement. We
wanted to keep him so bad but we knew he needed serious vet attention. So we
swallowed our pride and let him go to a shelter to get the attention he needed
but we couldn't afford because we had already had vet bills for our female. I just
wanted to share this story to tell people what a horrible, cruel, and stupid
idea it is to fight your animals. It is so sad how these pups are trained to be
aggressive. I wish I could have kept him because at least I would have known he
would have a great home. Now all I can do is just pray that he made it to a loving family!

Message: Well, since everyone else is sharing
their stories, I figured I would share mine too. I used to be like
almost everyone else. I thought that pit bulls were mean dogs
that were used only for fighting. Until I was ordered by the
court to do community service. It was stupid, I was speeding 15
mph over the speed limit and unlike everyone else who got a fine, I got
stuck with 30 hours of community service, so I decided to do it at the
local humane society because I've always liked dogs. I started
doing my community service there and met Leo, a black AM Staff, and Thunder, a
red nose pit bull. They were by far the two best dogs there, but no one wanted
to adopt them because of the pit bull reputation. So every time
someone would ask me if they were mean I would explain to them that they're great dogs,
which is the truth. From there, I started seeing all
these newspaper articles and segments on the news about pit bulls and
how evil and bad they are. I absolutely hate when people say that crap.
It's not true, but not everyone knows it. People will BELIEVE anything
they hear and that's what's happening and it's ridiculous. So
that's why I created this website, in hopes that, at the least, I could
change a few peoples' minds about pit bulls and inform people that
already know they're great dogs about facts and stuff they didn't know
about them. I hope that this website helps everyone out, so enjoy it! Thanks for visiting.

Message: I have pit bulls and let me tell you, I'd never get another breed!
Socrates once said "there is only one good, knowledge; and one evil,
ignorance." As I write this letter my faithful dog, a pit bull,
sits at my feet with Crystal, my cat. The pit bull is an amazing breed of dog,
one that has been mistreated and represented poorly. There has never
been a breed of dog so abused, misused, misunderstood as the pit bull.
And yet, somehow they still maintain an undying devotion, even to those
who abuse them. A lady who worked for ASPCA told of a story of a
pit bull burned by acid, who could barley move and still managed to get up and
wag his tail every time someone walked by.
What a horrible world we live in where the media is so one sided that they wont even acknowledge the many, many good things this breed has done. No one has heard the story's of the pit bulls whom tirelessly searched ground zero of the world trade centers, or the dogs who searched for days after the tsunami's hit Asia. Instead we hear of a "pit bull mauling" but when u see the dog responsible, it is CLEAR that its not all pit. Did you know that pit bulls account for LESS THEN 1.83% of all fatal attacks???
Last November in FL, a pit saved a 7 year old boy from being mauled by 2 akitas. The pit belonged to the neighbor and instinctively knew what to do to stop the fight. In Jan. 04 in Alaska, a pit named Marley pulled his owners 6 year old out of their burning home. Lucky the dog was home. Again, in Holly Hill, FL, an elderly lady would not have found her way out of her burning home if it wasn't for her daughters pit bull tugging at her dress. One of the most amazing story I've read was of Weela, owned by Lori Watkins, who saved 30 people, 29 dogs and 13 horse's. When readers digest did an article on it, they refused to print that Weela was a pit bull! These dogs need our HELP, not our HATE!
Out of a hundred different breeds to bite a person, a pit bull was FOURTH on that list..... fourth from the BOTTOM!!!!!!!!! Labs and cockers were on top! The American Temperament Testing society gave pits a passing rate of 83.9% that's better then golden retrievers and beagles!!!!!!!!
Many people say pits make the best S+R dogs, they can be trained to seek out bombs, land mines, drugs, criminals, and even the dead. Kris Crawford's S+R pits have saved lost children and even located the unmarked graves of victims of the civil war! NASA requested her 3 pit bulls to assist in the recovery of the astronauts after the '03 shuttle disaster, her dogs were even involved in the Laci Peterson investigation!
Alaska's first certified hearing dog is a pit bull. I bet you didn't know Helen Keller owned a pit bull! These dogs do things for our country too!! The number one customs dog in the US is a pit called Popsicle, found by a cop in a FREEZER during a drug raid, Popsicle was trained to be a drug dog and has been doing a great job ever since. Popsicle found 3,075 pounds of cocaine that could have crossed the border!
In the early 1900's Private John Robert found a pit bull puppy and brought it with him to France in the armed forces. The dog was named "stubby" and is now known as the most decorated war dog in US history. He single handedly captured a German spy and was awarded the title "sergeant". He served in 17 battles until Nov. 11, 1918, the day the war ended!
I give my best wishes to those who have fallen victim to breed specific legislation and the ignorance of others. Remember "Nothing is more terrible then ignorance in action" - Abraham Lincoln.

Message: I'm so glad you have a website for this
wonderful breed. I'm so sick of them getting a bad rap when their
amazing animals. I'm 17 and I've had 4 pit bulls in my life. I now have 2
pit puppies both 9 months. I absolutely adore them I've had them since
they were 7 weeks. Every pit I've had has been so affectionate. I've even
had 2 who were beaten and they would never hurt a fly. its a shame
their treated so horribly. I've never had a bad experience with a pit in
my life. their the most loyal dogs in my opinion.
