American Bulldog saves girl from abduction

SOLDOTNA -- Alaska State Troopers are looking for a man with dog bite marks on his arm who, they say, tried to abduct a 15-year-old girl last week in Soldotna.

Troopers say the man was bitten on the left forearm by the girl's American bulldog, Tank, who prevented the abduction.

The girl was walking her dog on a bike trail at the intersection of Mooring Drive and the Kenai Spur Highway around 5:45 p.m. Aug. 8 when the man grabbed her and tried to push her into his pickup, troopers say. The dog fought him, and the girl freed herself and ran.

The suspect is described as approximately 5 feet, 11 inches tall, weighing about 225 pounds. He was clean-shaven with a medium skin tone, brown eyes and very short dark hair. At the time of the attempted abduction, he was wearing a dark T-shirt and blue jeans.

The pickup is described as an older model, possibly mid-1990s, black Chevrolet extended cab.

Troopers said they want to talk to anyone who was near the intersection or at Glacier Pontiac Buick GMC or Kenai Auto -- businesses located there -- between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Aug. 8, and to anyone who has information that could help identify the suspect. Troopers can be reached at 262-4453 or through Crime Stoppers at 283-8477.
